Dates arrive as strings and stay useless until you convert them. Every time-based report starts with this one line, and the version that loops over rows formatting each one is slower by a factor of a hundred.
Write add_month(df).
df has columns event_id and timestamp, where timestamp holds date strings like "2024-03-17". Return a new DataFrame with the original columns plus a month column holding the string "2024-03" for that row.
