Factor-Aware Predictive Learning improves cinematic video generation using MLLM latents

FAPL trains a Video Diffusion Transformer to effectively use multimodal large language model latents for temporal inference and factor-aware control, achieving better action sequencing, camera fidelity, and factor-specific editing on cinematic video tasks.

Challenges in cinematic video generation with limited inputs and factor control

Cinematic video generation requires models to infer detailed temporal sequences and camera motions from sparse inputs like scripts and few visual references, rather than dense frame-by-frame guidance. This makes it hard to generate plausible, temporally coherent videos.

Additionally, factor-aware control demands that changes to one cinematic factor (character, scene, action, camera) affect only that factor in the output, preserving all others. For example, changing the character should not alter the action or scene.

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) provide rich semantic and visual priors that could help with both temporal inference and factor-aware control. However, existing video diffusion transformers (DiTs) often bypass MLLM latents via native text or visual conditioning pathways, and using MLLM latents alone does not guarantee effective factor control or temporal prediction.
